COMPLIANCE TESTING

Harmony Timber Floors Pty Ltd engaged Alpha Acoustics Pty Ltd to perform field impact insulation tests in Unit 6 and Unit 7, 947 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach, QLD 4220. For the purpose of this acoustic report, the tests were conducted as follows:

  1. Harmony Heritage Collection Beach House European Oak Engineered Timber Flooring sample on 5mm Blockout Plus Underlay via the Glue Down Method of Installation (Test ID 1 Unit 6).
  2. Harmony Heritage Collection Beach House European Oak Engineered Timber Flooring sample on 5mm Silent Step Gold Class Underlay via the Floating Method of Installation (Test ID 4 Unit 7).
  3. Harmony Heritage Collection Beach House European Oak Engineered Timber Flooring sample on 5mm Silent Step Gold Class Cut-Out Underlay via the Glue Down Method of Installation (Test ID 5 Unit 6).
  4. Harmony Heritage Collection Beach House European Oak Engineered Timber Flooring sample on 3mm Silent Step Underlay via the Floating Method of Installation (Test ID 7 Unit 7).
  5. Harmony Heritage Collection Beach House European Oak Engineered Timber Flooring sample on 3mm Silent Step Gold Class Underlay via the Floating Method of Installation (Test ID 6 Unit 7).

Testing was conducted on the 23 September 2019.

Measurement Procedures

Floor impact sound insulation is assessed in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 140.7:2006 Acoustics – Measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements (Field measurements of impact sound insulation of floors) and rated in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 717.2:2004 Acoustics – Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements (Impact sound insulation)(Extracted from Original Report conducted by Alpha Acoustics Pty Ltd dated the 09 October 2019)

The following instruments were used in the evaluation. 

All instrument systems had been laboratory calibrated using instrumentation traceable to Australian National Standards and certified within the last two years thus conforming to Australian Standards. The measurement system was also calibrated prior to and after the noise survey. Calibration drift was found to be less than 0.3 dB during attended measurements. No adjustments for instrument drift during the measurement period were warranted.

Criteria

The Building Code of Australia is the National Construction Code. This code is updated periodically. The code applicable to a residential apartment building is based on the date of the construction certificate (in QLD). The current National Construction Code states the floor impact noise performance may be tested on site by: “a weighted standardised impact sound pressure level with spectrum adaptation term (LnT,w) not more than 62 when determined under AS/NZS ISO 712.2”.(Extracted from Original Report conducted by Alpha Acoustics Pty Ltd dated the 09 October 2019)

Conclusion

From the results in this report (Section 6 above) we conclude that all of the tested floor acoustic underlay systems meet the minimum floor impact noise requirements of the BCA. (Extracted from Original Report conducted by Alpha Acoustics Pty Ltd dated the 09 October 2019)

It is to be noted that the field test acoustic ratings provided in the report are indicative and are to be used for comparative purposes only. Acoustic ratings will vary and are dependent on a number of factors including the following:

  • Thickness of the concrete slab
  • Density of the concrete slab
  • Presence or absence of a ceiling cavity
  • Position of the concrete reinforcement
  • Presence and placement of structural walls
  • Room volume
  • Internal layout

Acoustic ratings will vary between buildings and between rooms. It is important to consult and acoustic engineer or industry professional in order to confirm that the selected product, conforms to the requirements laid out by the body corporate or the building’s acoustic requirements.
