What is SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring?

SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring is a premium, rigid-core flooring that combines the durability of stone with the aesthetic versatility of vinyl. It has been specifically designed to be water-resistant and more durable when it comes to dents, scratches, and temperature fluctuations.

How is SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring made?

SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring is engineered in multiple layers and pressed together under extreme pressure and high temperatures.

The wear layer is a transparent top coating that assists in protecting against dents, scratches, stains and daily wear and tear.

The design layer comprises a high-definition printed layer that mimics the realistically look of natural timber.

The SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring core is the most crucial component of the plank, made from a dense blend of natural limestone powder, PVC resin, and stabilizers. We only utilize virgin materials in order to ensure the structural stability of our products. This core is completely rigid and is less likely to swell or warp when exposed to moisture and heat than timber.

The underlayment is bonded to the core using either an EVA or IXPE backing. We utilize an IXPE backing which is of a better quality than EVA. The underlay also adds acoustic properties to the product which in general performs extremely well acoustically, due to the manner in which it has been constructed. The underlay also provides a softer feel underfoot.

Is SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring waterproof or water-resistant?

There is no doubt that SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring is highly water-resistant, however, it is not completely waterproof. They will easily resist spills and will not swell on the edges like timber flooring. Furthermore, if exposed to moisture they will not turn black like timber flooring, where if the timber flooring is exposed to moisture, like water or pet urine for a reasonable period of time, the tannins in the timber will cause the timber flooring to go black.

However, if the SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring is flooded, it could cause the flooring to react and cup. Furthermore, water cannot be left underneath the SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring if it is exposed to flooding, as it will cause mould to grow and probably start to smell so it will need to be removed.

This is also why most reputable suppliers like ourselves, insist on the installation of builders’ black plastic prior to installation, in order to prevent any moisture from the sub-floor impacting the product.

What is SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring so popular?

Due to its water-resistant properties, SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring has become increasingly popular in both domestic and commercial projects.

The dense stone core makes it more resistant to dents and potential damage from pets’ claws.

Unlike traditional vinyl planks, the rigid core reduces expansion or contraction due to temperature changes, making it ideal for the fluctuating Australian climate. Furthermore, it is a low maintenance flooring option. A simple sweep or vacuum and a light mop using a damp micro fibre mop is all that is required to keep it looking fantastic.

From a hygienics perspective, SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring is far more suitable in homes where individuals suffer from allergies than for instance carpet.

Due to SPC Hybrid Vinyl flooring being more durable than timber flooring, it has become increasing popular for home owners with young families and investors who want to install a more enduring product in their investment properties.
